Wheelchair Rugby was devised in Canada in 1977 to give team sports opportunities for limb paralyzed individuals (those with cervical cord injury, limb amputation, cerebral palsy, etc.) It is an international sport with wheelchairs that are widely used.
In some countries in the United States and Europe, it is also called “QUAD RUGBY” because it is a competition performed by people with disabilities in the extremities, and it was originally called “Murderball” because of the intensity of the competition. (MURDERBALL) has a history called.
It first appeared as a demonstration at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games and became an official event from the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games.
In Japan, the competition was officially introduced in November 1996 after the Atlanta Paralympics, and a federation was established in April 1997. Currently, we are conducting activities with the goal of spreading competition in Japan and winning medals at international competitions such as the Paralympic Games and World Championships.
